From Singapore to Singaporean: The Bicentennial Experience to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Raffles landing in Singapore unfolds the story of Singapore’s evolution. Highlights of Singapore Bicentennial, a multimedia sensory experience which took visitors back in time to witness key moments in Singapore’s transformation.
The Bicentennial Experience has two main sections:
The Time Traveler – Indoors bringing visitors on an epic experimental journey through Singapore’s key historical moments
As we enter, we were invited to an Atrium Experience rain magically freeze and fall in ‘reverse’, which provides insights into how climate played a significant role in the rise and fall of civilizations and cities.
Next, a live performance and a moving travellator add drama and dynamism to some of the most colorful exploits early Singapura. We saw how Singapore was already at the forefront of regional events as early as the 13th century.
The familiar narrative of how Raffles came to Singapore in year 1819 is retold from an omniscient perspective through eyes of local wildlife. We also witness the arrival of industrious pioneers who were instrumental in shaping the fate of early Singapore.
We were amazed at how colorful early 20th century Singapore looked as Singapore blossomed into a dynamic port city. This upbeat, fast-paced segment also takes an unflinching look at the grime beneath the glamour of industrialization and modernity. Moving screen and rotating seats are a plus experience in this segment.
Followed by the difficult days of which Singapore’s Japanese Occupation are conveyed; compellingly through dim spaces and cracked tunnels. Paying tribute to the brave volunteers and revealing the struggles of real-life survivors.
Lastly, we bear witness to how Singapore comes into its own after World War Two in this special ‘rain enclosure’ water projections highlight the nation’s remarkable achievements. From the road to independence to a promising glimpse of the future, this space provides an uplifting finale.
The Path Finder – An outdoor experience with series of pavilions designed for visitors to explore a diverse range of ideas and themes that show how Singapore’s connections with the rest of the world have spanned 700 years.
A truly educational and informative experience well expressed through modern innovative filled with special effects, lights and sounds capturing our hearts to get ourselves be intrigued to the story Singapore beholds.
Personally, I am proud to be a Singaporean and thank the forefathers who managed to make a tiny dot Singapore mature gracefully and be recognized in the world.
